Doll Case Spacer for 8" bases

My wife is an avid collector of Barbie dolls, some of which hold a special place in her heart. Her porcelain ones stand out due to their slightly taller stature compared to the vinyl ones. Lately, she wanted to display one of these unique dolls in a standard 8" square case she had on hand. However, it was clear that the doll wouldn't fit comfortably, as the case's side panel height was about 1/2" too short at 12.5". Rather than splurging on a taller case, which would have cost $16-$20 each and been difficult to find in the desired height, she turned to me for a solution. I took it upon myself to design an adapter spacer that would extend the base upward by approximately one inch. The spacer fits perfectly into the recess of the base and has transparent sides that nestle snugly onto the new top lip. One notable benefit of this design is that it creates a pocket where the doll's skirt can be neatly folded before the sides are lowered, preventing pinches and snags. If you require a taller extension, simply scale up the design in your slicer. However, please note that printing this adapter may pose a challenge for printers with smaller print beds, as it measures approximately 188mm square (7.4"). Centering it carefully within your slicer should allow it to fit on a 200x200mm print bed. Alternatively, you can print the adapter in pieces diagonally and glue them together. As an added convenience, I've included two complete bases that you could print instead if you prefer a more traditional approach. However, keep in mind that printing these bases will take an excessive amount of time and offer no significant benefits over the spacer. For this reason, I opted to print only the adapter and found it worked flawlessly. I'm confident that this solution will aid you in displaying your prized Barbie dolls with ease.
