Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency that was invented by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer. They created a payment system that's instant, fun, and free from traditional banking fees. Dogecoin features the face of the Shiba Inu dog as its logo and namesake, coming from the popular "Doge" meme.[6] Introduced on December 6, 2013, it quickly gained its own online community, reaching a market capitalization of $5.38 billion on January 28, 2021.
