I'm really excited about this fun notice-board or fridge magnet design based on my amazing dog Shadow, a sleek black poodle. This was also a great first experiment with 3D design and printing for me and my daughter. We started by uploading a photo of Shadow curled up on the sofa into Sketchup, then manually tracing her outline. After that, we closed the shapes, pulled it into 3 dimensions, and added a hole in the back for the magnet. We decided to go for value with a batch of 50 strong disc magnets from Banggood - http://www.banggood.com/50pcs-N52-Super-Strong-Disc-Magnets-20mm-x-3mm-Rare-Earth-Neodymium-Magnets-p-997169.html. We originally did a 20mm diameter hole for the magnet, but it needed widening to fit the magnets in, so we enlarged the hole to 21mm diameter. After doing some research, I chose to print this with 3D Print UK using their PA2200 Nylon material and carbon-black and polish processing options. This resulted in a larger order quantity than I had originally planned, but we were very pleased with the product's look, feel, and overall quality from 3D Print UK. This turned out really well to represent my black poodle Shadow. Check out some photos attached!
