A new high-performance package was introduced - the R/T (Road Track), a nod to the influential Road Track magazine that had helped promote muscle cars for years. The R/T came standard with the previous year's powerful 440 Magnum engine, with the option to upgrade to the legendary 426 Hemi. In 1968, Chrysler launched an innovative ad campaign featuring a cartoon bee with an engine on its back, promoting models known as the Scat Pack. The Coronet R/T, Super Bee, Dart GTS, and Charger R/T proudly sported bumble-bee stripes - two thin stripes framing two thick ones - which were standard on the R/Ts and available in red, white, or black. These iconic stripes could be removed at no additional cost. The 1968 film Bullitt catapulted the Charger R/T to fame with its gripping car chase sequence alongside Steve McQueen's iconic 1968 Ford Mustang GT through the streets of San Francisco - a scene widely regarded as one of the most influential in movie history. In the film, a sleek black Dodge Charger R/T 440 was pursued by McQueen's Ford Mustang GT, navigating the treacherous San Francisco slopes with ease. The 1968 model year Charger sales soared to 96,100 units, with over 17,000 of those being Charger R/Ts.
