Dodecahedron Buckyball The simplest buckyball is a dodecahedron, featuring 12 regular pentagon faces. By extruding each of these pentagon faces at an angle that allows all vertices to converge on the same sphere - the circumscribing sphere of the dodecahedron - we create a dodecahedral buckyball. In this design, the pentagon's circum-radius measures 30 mm, while its edge length is approximately 35.26 mm. The radius of the dodecahedron's circumsphere is about 49.42mm, and the taper angle for extrusion is roughly -67.3 degrees. My calculation involves: -90 deg + atan((dodecaCircumedSphereRadius - dodecaInscribedSphereRadius) / (tan(54 deg) * edgeLen / 2)). Among the files you'll find: A solid dedocahedron bucky A shelled one with a pentagonal opening at the bottom. A wireframe version A shelled dodecahedron. Have fun!
