Dodecaeder Lamp
thingiverse
I needed lamps for my kitchen skylights, but any small lamp would have looked lost in those huge openings ~3'x4'. So I came up with hanging Dodecaeders from steel cords that spanned across the skylight. The steel cords I got from Home Depot were originally meant for hanging picture frames. The lamp that fits into the large Dodecaeder, which I got from IKEA (HEMMA), just clamps to the shade. Use LED bulbs only to prevent the lamp shade from melting! When scaling up, watch out for the 40mm diameter hole in the full-size lampshade. I printed my Dodecaeders with two perimeters and zero infill in a quasi-vase mode. To poke holes for the fishing line, I used a hot needle. I added both small and large versions of the Dodecaeder to download because I had scaling problems when using Cura. The 0.6mm wall thickness makes the two perimeters almost touch, creating one strong wall. Scaling in Cura might still work, but I haven't tried it yet.
