Dodeca-box

A 12-Leaf Iris Box Design. This design is essentially an updated version of my original 8-Layer Iris Box, 'Octo-Box', but with a significant increase in leaf count to 12. The overall dimensions remain the same as the Octo-box, yet this design opens to a larger aperture. The mechanism parts utilize ridged pins and holes that clip together seamlessly. The box measures 80mm in diameter overall, while the container opening is approximately 62mm in diameter. To open the box, simply push the handle sections in an anti-clockwise direction. No supports are required for this object, making it a breeze to print. This design was initially published on MyMiniFactory in late 2017 and has since been relocated here as well. I have designed numerous other iris boxes since then, which can be found on my design page: https://www.thingiverse.com/BrienAllison/designs. An improved version of this design, 'Dodeca-Box V2', is also available at: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3665643. The hinges of the mechanism employ ridged pins and holes that clip together efficiently. To ensure optimal performance, it's essential to print these sections with 0.1mm layer heights, as the ridges alternate with this height. You can print the majority of the parts at a thicker layer height for speed using adjustable layer heights in your slicer. However, the effectiveness of these hinges may depend on your specific printer and print settings. To achieve an optimal fit, you can use contour xy compensation or adjust your flow rate. The tolerance on the hinges is 0.15mm. The 'top door 1' component is a plain iris leaf for the top of the box, while 'top door 2' features a curved extension to facilitate easy opening. I recommend printing at least two 'top door 2' components (up to a maximum of six as shown in the printed examples and assembly diagram) and arranging them on opposite sides of the box for effortless opening.
