With the Catholic Monarchs, a process of monetary system homogenization began in the Iberian Peninsula. The Spanish gold ducat weighs 3.6 grams (23 3/4 carats purity), is the unitary gold coin (half-doubloon) and was the accounting unit during the XVI and XVII centuries [citation required]. It was first minted by the Catholic Monarchs, under the name of Excellent of Granada, later receiving the name ducat, and according to the "Ledger of Ordinances on the work of coins," also known as the "Royal Pragmatic of Medina del Campo," of June 13, 1497, it is equivalent to 11 Castilian reales and 1 maravedí or well 375 maravedíes (1500 cornagos).
