Dnd Logo lid for pencil box, figure holder, and dice holder
thingiverse
I loved this pencil box, dice holder, and figure holder so much that I had to add something special - the Dungeons and Dragon 5th edition logo would look amazing on top of it. To make it happen, I used meshmixer (and a few other tools) to convert the logo into a STL file, fix any issues in meshmixer, and apply it to the lid. As a result, printing the lid upside down from normal became a requirement. The beveled and raised nature of the lid made it necessary to use a lot of support material to print it properly. I used cura with these settings: Generate supports, Placement everywhere, Pattern zig zag, Density 15%, Support Z distance .4mm (I left the rest of the support values auto-calculated). Printing with a raft was also necessary because I got horrible curling at the edges with such minimal contact between the model and the build plate. The inside finish suffered as a result, but given that it's just the top of the box, I was willing to make this trade-off in order to add the logo without needing glue. I had planned to use the switch at layer plugin to print the dragon in red, but when I copied the file over to print, I sent the version without the Z plugin gcode - still looks amazing! A huge thanks goes out to Triton_9 for creating the original model (I used the original base in the original file, and just remixed the lid).
