I wanted a physical way to track HP, but none of the counters you could get online were the right form factor, style, number of digits, or ideally a combination of the three. On top of that, I couldn't find any that had an easy to use carry over mechanism. So I designed my own with a unique mechanism that puts numbers on the face of gears instead of the sides. This makes it really easy to print the numbers different colors and keeps everything flat and portable! The model in the first photo has Prusament Blue for the numbers and Prusament Galaxy Silver for the wheel faces, with the body being PolyTerra Black.

To use, just use the thumb wheel on the side to scroll up or down. The 10s and 100s digits will automatically go up and down based on the 1s wheel. Tab inside the Bottom piece allows you to toggle roll over, with tab down to stop at 0 and 999 and tab up for roll over.

Features:

It goes all the way from 0 to 999, with or without roll over/overflow. Great for fidgeting!

The counter has a built in detent mechanism to click between numbers so it lines up and stays that way when traveling between sessions.

The numbers are on a different layer, letting you print with different colors easily.

Everything prints without supports, no external parts required.

Included Top_Blank.stp for customization!

Instructions:

Make sure your printer is well tuned! Rough top layers and over extrusion are the biggest causes for jamming with this model.

You'll need:

1x Top

1x Bottom

3x Num_Top

3x Num_Bot

2x Carry_Top

2x Carry_Bot

I recommend printing the Num and Carry files with a brim. The chamfered side should be against the build plate so brim removal is easier.

Use a mid-print filament swap to make the numbers stand out, or print in white and color the numbers in with a pencil or pen. Filament swaps effect other prints on the plate, so make sure to have a batch of only Num_Tops!

Once everything is printed, stack the number wheels together by aligning the notch in the gears. They should press fit well, but if they don't you can add a drop of super glue to hold them together.

Stack the two carry pieces together, nothing to align as the pieces have 4 way symmetry.

Use a set of flush cuts or spatula to free the detent spring in the Top piece and the little tab in the Bottom piece. Be careful not to cut into the plastic, merely separate. See pictures for details.

Add the first number wheel to the Bottom piece, spinning clockwise until the ‘0’ is all the way to the left. If the roll over tab is down, the number wheel should stop spinning.

Add a Carry wheel to the Bottom piece with the square facing up. The Carry wheel should have the gap in the top teeth facing towards the Number wheels. See pictures for details.

Add the second Number wheel slightly to the right of the first. Line up the zero to the left just like before. The second Carry wheel goes in like the first Carry wheel, and the last Number wheel follows the same pattern.

When snapping the Top piece onto the bottom, push it down while rotating the thumb wheel so the detent spring can fall into place. You're done!

If you have trouble with smoothness, I recommend printing the Carry wheel parts at 95% or so scale. You can also sand the outside or face of the Number wheels.
