DMM Rebel Ice Axe - Tomb Raider
thingiverse
As a massive Tomb Raider enthusiast, I've crafted several of the game's iconic weapons but felt my initial Ice Axe model fell short of perfection despite its resemblance to the Thing. This prompted me to take action! My other creations: Compound Bow (2012 game) - https://www.thingiverse.com/make:519502 Ice Axe (2012 game) - https://www.thingiverse.com/make:524235 Ice Axe (2015 and 2018 games) - https://www.thingiverse.com/make:529426 FULL DISCLOSURE The original 3D file comes from GrabCAD, courtesy of Bojan Maksimovic (https://grabcad.com/library/ice-axe-1). I scaled and chopped the Solidworks files to suit smaller 3D printing beds. The DMM Rebel Ice Axe served as the model in the 2013 Tomb Raider game and its movie counterpart. The Rebel also inspired the axe used by Lara in the 2015 game, though it was remodeled for a distinct look (no commercials involved, I'm pretty sure!). As the movie shoot required sourcing several axes, DMM now faces the challenge of finding these rare items - I've tried too! Other Thingiverse models exist but lack some details and structure found in the Rebel. I invested time into Fusion to produce more authentic replicas. I'll build mine with real steel nuts and bolts at the head end, noting that a smaller bolt secures the upper grip on the original axe, missing from the file. When my print is complete, I'll add this detail by modding it.
