DLink Camera Mount for Ultimaker 2
thingiverse
I'm using a D-Link DCS-930LB camera as a printer monitor, and I needed a custom camera mount to fit on the side of my Ultimaker 2 Extended, which should also work for the regular model. This project was inspired by "Add-on D-link Camera Bracket for Replicator 2X" by @davedelay [http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:325121], which works perfectly fine for my Replicator 2X. I've uploaded both the .stl file and the .igs file, allowing others to remix this design if they wish. This model was designed using Fusion 360. I chose to use this software because it allowed me to efficiently create and modify the camera mount. How I Designed This Project Modifying an STL file can be challenging for beginners like myself, but I didn't want to recreate the thread part of the mount from scratch. So, I took the thread portion from "Prusa i3 - D-link Camera Mount" by @dtwrv6 and imported it into Fusion 360 as a mesh body. Unfortunately, this process created too many polygons, preventing me from converting the mesh to a brep body. That's why I had to separate the thread piece from the bracket, a limitation that's inherent in Fusion 360 or other apps I've used. To solve this issue, I opted for printing both parts and gluing them together with ABS cement (alternatively, super glue could be used). Model Updates 2015-09-25: dlink_camera_bracket_ultimaker2_v10.stl Realizing that my camera needed to be placed higher up to capture a better view above the build plate at the start of each print, I made an update. The frame of the bracket was also extended 20mm to give the camera an even wider angle of view. One problem with using this D-Link camera on the Ultimaker 2 Extended is its height. It limits the camera's angle, preventing it from viewing the top of the build plate both during and after a print has completed. In these situations, I may consider attaching one of those wide-angle lenses typically used for smartphones to my camera.
