This is the vital piece of the retract assembly for the DJI S900 and S1000 drones. Due to DJI's requirements, buying the entire retract assembly would have cost around $400, but all that was needed was one single part. A local mechanical engineer took on the task, possibly paving the way for future updates; after a test print, everything went together effortlessly like glue. In fact, this custom piece far exceeds expectations, rendering it 1000 times better than the original component. To give users a fair warning: swapping this part out is not limited to the damaged area as I plan on switching it over to the other side as well. The metric holes are made for 3mm cap screws, with the existing screws being replaced by stronger 3mm x 10 mm cap screws which provide better thread stability in the plastic part and paired up with a washer. This DIY assembly works incredibly well. It is essential that users print this piece 180 degrees away from its default orientation using 2mm support for the best possible results to avoid common printing errors; only then can you guarantee yourself a fully functional product. Once photos have been uploaded in due time, readers will see firsthand just how brilliant the mechanical engineer's design truly was. A remarkable assembly which surpasses expectation and I would thoroughly recommend this piece to all enthusiasts. To get more amazing designs from this engineer in future projects, keep your fingers crossed! Before any actual redesigns of retracts for the s900 / s1000 take place, it's possible someone else could offer a superior design to challenge our present one, making us stronger. As we are aware that the original DJI retract assembly is weak at many points and its poor design often creates unnecessary issues for users. This includes a point on the piece where the boom goes inside the metal clamp of the retract gear, where it starts at about 2/3rds not halfway through the circle diameter. The current setup places too much strain onto that section and needs an overhaul; but now that we redesigned this specific piece and moved the clamp's start position from 2/3rds to exactly half the circle, we can safely say our assembly will serve better for those of you with retract systems on hand. Additionally, the 16mm diameter OD x 14 mm ID carbon fiber boom has an inner plug installed for extra structural support. Not just any standard improvements have been made in this model – rather, the new version truly makes the overall retract performance smoother as long as cap screws are tightened with restraint, to say the least. A considerable boost can also be seen once both side booms become equipped, thanks to internal reinforcement with a robust design at strategic spots. This impressive new redesign brings to the table: it's an upgrade built to withstand intense pressures while ensuring rigidity by having both clamps positioned 50% within each half. Printing at a resolution of 0.2mm, 100% infill for enhanced structural integrity is recommended; you may wish to consider materials beyond standard PLA for optimal performance as well. Printing ABS plastic has turned out successful in our experiments thus far but further trials using other compounds can only serve the betterment of future modifications – so I'll be keeping tabs on new development here. To recap: it really helps people, even helping yours truly with all savings accrued to the tune of a full four hundred bucks!
