OBSOLETE Updated design here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:743731 New 11/11/14: I've added round foot pads - no more aligning needed! From now on, I'm using them exclusively. These foot pads also protect the carbon fiber rod from delamination caused by landings. VIDEO OF PARTS IN FLIGHT HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkcF-SHk2Vo New 11/7/14: I've added a new gallery featuring pictorial instructions for compass adapters. Both compass adapters have been redesigned. New 11/5/14: I've created an optional adapter that allows you to use the stock compass clamp. Keep in mind it only works one way due to the compound angle. If your drone can't align the flat face to the Z and X axes, it's probably upside down. Remember to align your compass with the Phantom's Z (UP) and X (Front) axes - SEE THE GALLERY PICS FOR MORE INFO. New 11/04/14: I've updated the compass mount and the part that attaches to the Phantom, adding gussets and a hole for a quick release pin. If you don't intend to remove the carbon fiber stick, use CA glue or press fit instead. The hole lets you create a retaining pin or use stock pins for R/C. You must align the face of the compass mount bracket with the front to rear centerline of the Phantom on the right rear leg - SEE GALLERY PICS! It should also be adjusted vertically so the connector will reach. I'm pretty sure this meets the XYZ requirement for the compass. Use M1.5 (or small SAE) screws or a tyrap to hold it in place. This modified DJI landing skid/gear uses 5-6 inches of 0.125-inch (3.175mm) carbon fiber rod, giving you a very strong and lightweight part. A 6-inch rod provides about two inches of ground clearance for a Vision+. Adjust the rod length according to your needs. You can leave off the bottom foot pad or glue a piece of foam on it. I'm skeptical that even a thin piece of foam will make much of an impact in terms of shock absorption, though. Instead, use cheap earplugs from the dollar store for better results - OR JUST OMIT THE FOOT! It'll be lighter and fine without it. In any case, if you're landing in dirt, foot pads are highly recommended. Attach the two antennas to adjacent legs by taping them on. These four modified leg skids weigh about 26g less than stock leg loops (almost an ounce), that's around 43% of their total weight! They also have a smaller aerodynamic profile, resulting in increased flight time.
