I've been experimenting with 360 cameras and drones for quite some time now, specifically with the Theta S and Mavic Pro models. They offer an exciting new way to experience and interact with the world. I began wondering what would happen if I attached a 360 camera to my drone, particularly when paired with a VR headset - it could potentially create an incredibly immersive video experience. To achieve this, I designed and 3D printed a custom mount that clips onto the Mavic Pro's battery pack. The 360 camera will be secured using a standard M4 camera screw. You can view the resulting footage on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaRhsfx_z8s - it features a short clip captured with my Theta S attached to the drone. The design is based on the universal support for the DJI Mavic Pro, which I found on Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2137716). Here are some important notes to consider: Building Notes: 1. You will need an M4 camera screw, also known as a tripod screw. 2. The hole for the M4 screw has been designed with minimal clearance to prevent any movement during flight - this is particularly important for taller cameras like the Theta S. 3. With a correct adapter mount, this design should also work well for GoPro cameras. 4. Please be aware that some support may be required for 3D printing. Flight Notes: 1. When flying with the Theta S attached, you may encounter interference with the upward clearance sensor and compass - always check your surroundings before flight and monitor the on-board camera to ensure you're aware of your drone's location. 2. For the first few flights, it's recommended that you perform low-attitude test flights to get familiar with the control and weight dynamics of the added 360 camera. 3. Due to the additional weight, please don't push the limits of your drone - check its battery level, attitude, and maintain a good line of sight at all times. 4. Always fly safely and responsibly - remember that you're flying a drone with an attached 360 camera, so be mindful of your surroundings and take necessary precautions to protect both your equipment and others.
