DJI Action 2 Fan Mount

DJI Action 2 Fan Mount

I recently bought a DJI Action 2, and for those who have this little action cam, you probably know about the overheating issues in static environment (for example inside a car). This little project allowed me mount a Noctua 40mm fan to the camera. Now i'm able to reacord at least 2.7K @ 60fps and with rocksteady enabled, with external power supply, as long as I want. I haven't testet it with 4K tough. My camera, in 1080p30 with rocksteady also overheats after around 30 minutes (depends on the environment temperature). With 5V supplied to the fan, it was enough for it to run as long as needed. For 2.7k60 with rocksteady, supplying 5V to the fan was not enough. I would suggest having USB power supply for the camera and 12v for the fan. For those who want to be a bit more fancy, you can get a Step-Up converter (or something similar) and have one single power supply (5V usb) and just "transform" the 5V to 12V for the fan. Someday I will try to make a little board to either have the possibility to select between 3 speeds (5V, 9V and 12V), or just attach a little temperature sensor somewhere to the camera so that the speed is automatic. NOTE: this version is to be used with the SmallRig Cage for the DJI Action 2! If requested, I might do a version for the "Natural" DJI Action 2 (without any cage or case). I hope you enjoy the mount! :) Feel free to remix!
