Djenne terracotta figure, Mali
sketchfab
Inner Niger Delta (Djenné), Mali. 12th-15th century. Terracotta • H: 25 cm. This Djenne male and female couple from the Malcolm Collection was sold for $790,000 on May 7, 2016 at Sotheby's New York. They feature a recurring iconographic theme of the Djenne art in an unusually composed arrangement. By virtue of their jewelry, the two figures can be identified as members of the wealthy elite class of Djenne society. To learn more about it, see Visions of Grace by Heinrich Schweizer: 5 Continents Editions, Milano, 2014 (p. 20-21)... available online and at fine bookstores. The 3D model was built using a set of VRT images after post-processing 900 CT-scan axial slices (Somatom + InSpace).
