Djembe (African Drum) hi-rez scan (Playable!)
thingiverse
This is a 126 picture Agisoft scan of a nicely carved African djembe drum. The drum was scanned sitting flat on its head. The scan reached about 1/4 the way down into the drum (you can see chisel marks from the carving). After scanning I completed the hollowing of the body in Blender. When printed with the drum head on the build plate it is playable as a finger drum, although not as musical as the original. The carvings around the body are captured perfectly and many of the head lacings are actually freestanding. The model is scaled to print on a Makerbot type printer, but if only I had a Rostock Max. . . We talked about this thing and a whole lot more on the 3D Printing Today podcast available on iTunes, Stitcher radio or direct from the source at http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/
