This V4 of our DIYbio centrifuge. NEW FEATURES Rotor is significantly lighter and precision-fitted (a low-poly design is available, along with a high-resolution version created in OPENSCAD; Rotor is positioned below the platform; Microswitch plunger is situated slightly beneath the platform to prevent accidental activation when the lid is open; Stronger hinges provide added durability; Separate motor mount allows for installation of various motor sizes; Smaller profile reduces top-heaviness; Offset bolt-latch simplifies inserting and retracting the retaining bolt, making it easier; Containment compartment effectively isolates electronics from the rotor. Additional Features Incorporated is a 12V DC motor; Microswitch enables auto-cutoff when the cover is open; Rocker switch provides easy operation; Extra space accommodates an Arduino Nano for added functionality. DESCRIPTION Utilizing a 12V DC motor and a simple rocker switch, this centrifuge also includes provisions for adding a microswitch and sufficient room to integrate a microcontroller (such as an Arduino Nano) to implement timing and cycle functions. The original SketchUp 2019 file (.skp) is included, along with the OpenSCAD file for the high-resolution rotor. INSTRUCTIONS Requires friction welding or adhesive to seal the acrylic between the top/bottom of the lid. The rotor fits snugly onto the motor shaft through a press fit. If it becomes loose, apply a tiny amount of hot glue for added security. Hinges employ M3x 30mm bolts and nuts. Any M3 bolt can be used to secure the platform to the case (at the bottom). Improvements Still in Development A solid lid cover is being designed for users without access to acrylic; A video demonstration/tutorial will be created; Different rotor/motor solutions are being explored to enhance balance.
