*CLICK ON "THING FILES" TO GET THE PDF PLANS* In this video I will show you how to build a backyard playset / swingset with only wood! No playset kits or metal brackets are necessary, and you do not need to cut or weld any metal. The playset includes room for two swings, a climbing wall, a slide, a roof, and you can easily add more onto the sides if you want to! This will turn your backyard into the playground your kids will love and remember. The basic construction of the playset consists of three A-frames with a 4"x4" beam spanning across the three frames. Gussets and reinforcements made from wood are added to strengthen the corners. I recommend using treated wood for everything on the playset, except for the deck boards that make up the landing and climbing wall. Since treated wood *may* contain chemicals that are not so friendly, untreated cedar or similar is the best option for the boards that your kids will be touching the most. Be sure to use structural screws to screw everything together that is structural! Only use deck screws on the deck boards! I address this in the video and I want to be very clear that deck screws should not be used to hold the whole structure together! Another important must have are ground anchors. Please anchor your playset. It is extremely important to do so and the anchors are not that expensive. A playset is very heavy and it could tip over and seriously injure a child if it is not anchored to the ground. In the plans I've included the optional roof, and in the video you'll see a few extra add on features like the cedar plant box and solar powered LED patio lights. These are obviously not necessary but they add a fun personal touch to the playset. You will find links below to various items used in this build. You can find a link to the plans (PDF) here. These plans are provided free, in good faith, and are not certified, guaranteed, or approved by a structural engineer or the like.
