thingiverse
This DIY Surgical Mask is a simple, easy-to-make solution for those in need of protection. Please note the following important disclaimers: This is not a medical device and should not be considered as such. There are no guarantees that using this mask will prevent you from contracting the corona-virus or transmitting it to others. However, it may serve several purposes: It can remind you to avoid touching your face, which is essential in preventing the spread of the virus. It may capture some of the cough droplets, reducing the risk of transmission. If someone nearby coughs, this mask might help stop some of the virus from spreading. It can also serve as a visual reminder to maintain social distancing. To create this DIY Surgical Mask, you'll need: Two prints of the side piece, which can be obtained from the STL file DIY_surgical_mask_elastic_200425.stl. A paper towel measuring approximately 10 inches by 11 inches (254 mm x 279.4 mm). Half-inch wide elastic, preferably 18 to 24 inches long. Assembly is a straightforward process: Attach the rubber band chain to the first side piece, making sure to insert one end of the elastic into the small slot as shown in the close-up image and pulling it tight. Insert the other end of the elastic into the small slot, leaving it loose for easy adjustment later. Fan-fold the paper towel to a width of no more than 1.5 inches (38 mm). Insert one end of the folded towel into the slot nearest the rubber hole, as seen in the image. Repeat this process for the other end of the folded towel. This design is inspired by a similar creation on Thingiverse, with the notable difference being the use of half-inch wide elastic instead of rubber bands.
