I have always had a problem with my cookie baking getting the dough a uniform thickness. I have tried the "Rolling Pin Rings" before, but I have had limited success with them. I came up with this DIY design and now my dough is much more uniform when I roll it out.

I chose to make the thickness of the end caps equal to the thinkness (gap) of the individual rolling pin. So that you will have an instant visual approximation of the final thickness before you roll out your dough.

It is unlikely that you will need all four sizes (2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm) but you never know. I find that 3mm size is perfect for Sugar Cookies and that 2mm is great for Pie Dough.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Printrbot

Printer:

Simple Black

Rafts:

Doesn't Matter

Supports:

No

Resolution:

.25mm

Infill:

50%

Notes:

You will need a length of 1 1/2" PVC Pipe for this build (I went with 12"), some sand to fill the pipe, and either Super Glue or Epoxy to attach the End Caps.

My searches on the internet for this type of DIY Rolling Pin recommends that you NOT allow the PVC to touch your dough. You should use a sheet of Wax Paper or Parchment Paper between the rolling pin and your dough.

I would also recommend that you hand wash your rolling pin(s), you might not want to chance an End Cap coming off and spilling sand inside your dishwasher.

Category: 3D Printing
