I built a racing cockpit from scratch, equipped with a monitor stand, for under $100. The frame is constructed using 1-inch schedule 40 PVC pipe, which I sourced inexpensively. To connect the pipes, I designed and 3D printed specialized connectors, but truthfully, standard PVC fittings can be used just as effectively.
