DIY Quick Paint Booth
thingiverse
This is a project that really paid off and I'm excited to share it with the rest of the community. My wife was working on an object lesson handout for her presentation, which she had coming up soon. We had 48 wooden hearts that needed painting, but the weather wasn't cooperating - it was damp and rainy outside. We were in a tight spot, since the presentation was scheduled for the next day. I decided to take action while I was out picking up some additional supplies. As I walked into the garage where my workshop is located, I realized that painting the hearts there would be a problem. The overspray could go everywhere and the fumes from the paint would make me sick as I worked. I headed to Walmart and made my way to the automotive department in search of a solution. At worst, I was prepared to use a cut-up face mask to protect myself from the fumes. That's when I spotted an oil filter with an opening that fit perfectly onto my shop vacuum step-down adapter. It was a eureka moment. I have been using banker boxes for years and had a few stored away in my workshop, broken down into smaller units. I used one of them to create a makeshift paint booth, knowing it would come in handy for future projects. Below is a series of photographs from my notebook detailing the steps I took to build the paint booth. I am thrilled with how well it worked out - using a bag liner in my shop vac and the combination of the filter in the paint booth and the vacuum itself, along with the bag, resulted in no overspray floating around and significantly lower concentrations of paint fumes in the closed garage. I'm confident that this paint booth will be useful to anyone who is limited by space or funds or needs a solution for minimizing spray painting mess. Thanks for taking a look at my project.
