DIY Monitor Stand (Australian Edition)
thingiverse
This DIY project is inspired by those awesome IKEA shelf hacks that are floating around online. However, this one is designed specifically for us Aussies with a modern twist. The cost was incredibly low, the printing process was super easy, and I think it will look fantastic on any desk with its sleek aesthetic. Instead of an IKEA shelf, the timber section is made from a single piece of 1200 x 300 x 18mm Havea that I bought at Bunnings Warehouse for just over $20. I then cut this piece down to 1000mm to better fit my desk and designed the legs around it. This piece was sanded smooth and coated with two layers of beeswax, with buffing in between each layer. This design can be printed on most small consumer 3D printers as it is split into two halves that are joined by spigots (I recommend adding a small amount of epoxy or superglue to the hole before joining). The design is surprisingly solid and rigid for its dimensions, and I didn't use anything to fasten the legs to the board - they fit pretty snugly. Some key considerations: - I used a 0.6mm nozzle and 0.48mm layer heights for a quick print, feel free to go as low as you like for increased quality, though a quick sand of my prototypes made them look great. - I recommend using a brim if your bed level isn't 100% dialed in. - I printed these with 4 walls in PLA to ensure they were rigid enough. If you're using PETG or ABS you could possibly get away with 2 or 3. If there's enough interest, I plan to make V2 a bit more thought-out and solid!
