This is our first product "Smart Laser Mini" The Smart Laser Mini is an open source, easy-to-assemble laser cutter and engraver that you can assemble on your own. It uses simple mechanisms making it user-friendly. This laser cutter is also compact in size making it perfect for household use. Check out the details at http://www.smartdiys.cc/ More Details: Details of Smart Laser MIni: My friend Hirotaka and I spent about one year developing an affordable, easy-to-use desktop laser cutter that was available on the market today. It's open source so people can freely modify our software and hardware to expand the processing area and add functions like adding additional components. The laser is 1.6 watts diode and can cut through materials as thin as .079 inches or 2mm in thickness. We used Open Builds V-slot for our mechanical parts, which made it simple and easy to assemble. Our computer software works on a web browser, and it was produced using HTML, JavaScript, and Python. It's cross-platform compatible so you can use Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Raspberry Pi. The control board is the Arduino Mega. The Arduino Mega's program is based on GRBL by Bengler. For the laser diode, we used a 1.6 W Blue Laser Diode in TO56 package from OSRAM Ltd. To keep the temperature rise of the laser diode low, we installed a heat sink and fan to cool it down. The cover for blocking the light of the laser is also mounted on the laser module. Download the data files at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1026345/#files Our axises are OpenBuilds's V-Slot Linear Rail and Delrin Mini V Wheel. By adopting V-Slot, we reduced the number of parts needed to assemble and simplified the mechanism. Smart Laser Mini uses 5mm thickness acrylic for its material like plates. To move our axes we use 3 pieces of NEMA17 Stepping motors. We designed a shield called "Smart Laser Mini Shield" for Arduino Mega. The controller software is based on GRBL (Bengler: GRBL) modified from Lasersaur (Lasersaur Manual). The computer and controller communicate through COM or USB.
