DIY Inkjet Printer

thingiverse

This project aimed to create a budget-friendly, open-source inkjet printer utilizing standard technology for personal use. It addressed the lack of DIY inkjet kits by developing an innovative prototype featuring a lightweight, easy-to-assemble rod frame carriage driven by stepper motors and controlled by an Arduino Mega. Future work includes cost reduction through molding and casting, host software development, and speed optimization. View the printer in action at this YouTube link, and find additional images here. This project was a collaborative effort involving Patrick Hannan, Jared Knutzen, Nicholas C Lewis, and Joy Markham. To assemble and operate the printer, follow instructions provided in "Mechanical.zip," "Circuit.zip," "DIY Inkjet Printer.pdf," "Firmware.zip," and "Preprocessor.zip." Consider exploring mobile printing applications by mounting the print head to other robots without building x-y carriages.
