DIY Filament Dryer / Dehydrator, Tweaked
thingiverse
I now have a new version of my dehydrator, check it out https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2648645. The Dryer from Tinkerman impressed me initially, but I had some ideas to make it even better. This filament dispenser has been a game-changer for drying my nylon while printing! In the comments section of Tinkerman's Dryer, dtrArch recommended this dehydrator on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Flexzion-Dehydrator-Food-Fruit-Dehydration/dp/B01J51JLCC/ref=sr_1_23?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1499306986&sr=1-23&keywords=dehydrator+machine, and I also found Wilton's cake caddy at Joann for about $10 (remember to use your coupons!). When I tried using the cake caddy on top of the dehydrator, it fit perfectly. However, the shelf units were a bit too large. To solve this problem, I added some holes to hold down the spool holder using the screw holes in the center of the dehydrator. With two longer screws and a few more holes, I was able to create an immobile spool holder. I also wanted to modify the Filament Snoot by adding my PC4-M6 Male Straight Pneumatic Connector (since I didn't build Tinkerman's version, I'm not sure if it's any better or worse). However, this connector provides more security and a tighter seal than I expected. To protect the snoot from dust, I built a cap, but I never use it. This could be useful for someone designing a second tier with two snoots. When storing my dehydrator, I added about a cup of desiccant beads to keep it dry while it's turned off. To avoid any accidents, I made sure not to let the desiccant beads fall into the holes under the spool holder where the heat comes out.
