This is a filter remix of the Montana Mask attributed to the Billings Institute by an upload made by KLambert to the NIH 3D Print Exchange: https://3dprint.nih.gov/discover/3dpx-013312 The face mask part is solid, but the insert for the filter was missing crucial details and improper dimensions. This post combines the facemask component from that post with my own design for the filter holder inserts. The inserts are designed for both cloth and more rigid filter materials, made in 2 parts with an inner piece fitting snugly into the outer part. Note that tolerances can be tight, but I aimed to size for cloth use. The type of filter material is up to you, although I've seen online that a 100% cotton T-shirt can be used as a suitable substitute. This design allows for two layers and includes a rigid part if you can find some filter material. It can be printed in PLA, ABS, or PETG, but I printed the face mask using TPU, which flexes and creates a secure fit with a good seal. Any rubber band-like material will work for straps, and I found it more comfortable with stick-on Moleskin in the nose area on top. The filter inserts were printed with PETG, but any rigid filament will work. For more discussion on this topic and other 3D printing-related topics, check out my podcast: 3D Printing Today.
