The initial version of Katran's CNC router was quite basic and needed improvements. The upgraded machine now has a more powerful 2.2kW spindle motor, with 50% thicker plates to support the increased power. The redesigned gantry has split the extruded aluminum profile, moving the lead screw back to improve center of gravity and eliminate the need for spacers in rail carriage. Thicker gantry plates and thinner profiles have been used in this version. Fusion360 is now being employed instead of Inventor for CAD/CAM, as the previous design was rudimentary and failed to leverage parametric modeling effectively. Associations between parts were not properly maintained, leading to issues during contract manufacturing. The new design will utilize "higher functions" in Fusion360, ensuring that mirrored parts are treated as a group rather than individuals. The revised model will be shared shortly.
