DIY Chalkboard Organizer from Old Windows
thingiverse
After we replaced the old windows in our house, I really wanted to find a way to repurpose some of the old windows, and especially the living room one, which had many panes. I spent a lot of time wondering what to do with the old frames, and finally I decided to make myself a chalkboard organizer, thanks to a suggestion made by my experienced window cleaners (www.paulswindowcleaningmelbourne.com). We are a very busy family, with many lessons, meetings and trainings to attend, and unless we write everything down somewhere, we often forget and get confused. But thanks to the new chalkboard organizer, I just get up in the morning and look up to it. And everything I need to do today is right there in front of me. Here's how I did it: Instructions: First you should get all the materials you will need. Here are they: • An old window frame with many panes • 1 plywood piece with the same dimensions as the window frame • Nails and a hammer • Chalkboard paint • 2 paint brushes • White paint • Sandpaper Now you should clean up the window frame, if there are any splinters and dangerous edges, use the sandpaper. Paint the entire frame with white paint or some other color you might find attractive. Use the chalkboard paint to paint one side of the plywood. Once the window frame and the plywood piece are dry, you should get the piece of plywood, measure it once again, press it against the frame, cut out all unnecessary parts if there are any, and nail it to the frame. You should start from the back to the front, and use short nails which won't come out on the other side. If you're creating a bigger organizer with days of the week or the month, you can add small pieces of wood with the days painted on them. It will be an additional decoration and it will make your DIY chalkboard organizer even more interesting. When you're done decorating, you can get the hammer and some nails and attach the organizer to the wall. You can create such chalkboard organizers in all shapes and with all kinds of panes, depending what you need in your home. Just have in mind that the chalk leaves white dust behind it, so you might consider putting something on the ground below it to gather all the dust. Enjoy!
