DIY Airboat
pinshape
I've been itching to build a simple airboat for years, and when I was younger I actually attempted to construct one but never got around to implementing the remote control system. Please keep in mind that this is still an ongoing project. 20/07 - It's finally working! The directional mechanism requires some tweaks (fins, fins support, gear) to improve the turning radius, yet it functions surprisingly well despite these issues. 19/07 - I've added revised versions for several parts. Some components were too flimsy and I corrected a few oversights. Currently printing the final part and assembling the airboat. 18/07 - I've uploaded a revised base version that should take less time to print and save some filament. Additionally, I've included support for the central arc. I'm using an E3D v6 with a .4 nozzle and PLA to print all of these parts. You can obtain the propeller here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:116974 Instructions: To complete this project, you'll need two plastic soda bottles - I'm utilizing two 1.5-liter bottles and an inexpensive rc car (I simply bought the cheapest one available, which cost around 10€). Disassemble it and remove just the electronics portion. Also, you'll require a couple of zip ties (with varying lengths) to secure everything. Print two fins (fin.stl). The base arcs necessitate supports. Make sure to print the latest versions of the parts (check for a _v?.stl, where the ? should be the largest number available for that part).
