DIY Airboat
myminifactory
I've been wanting to build a simple airboat for years, ever since I was a kid trying to assemble one, unfortunately I never got past the remote control aspect. It works great now though! The direction mechanism needs some tweaking (fins, fin support, gear) to improve the turning radius, but it's working surprisingly well despite that. I printed this using an E3D v6 with a .4 nozzle and PLA. Here are the instructions: To make one of these airboats you'll need two soda bottles - I used 1.5 liter ones - and a cheap RC car (I just bought the cheapest I could find, around $10). Take it apart and remove the electronics. You'll also need a couple of zip ties with different lengths to keep everything secure. Print out two fins (fin.stl) and make sure you add supports for the base arcs. Printed using an E3D v6 with a .4 nozzle and PLA, this airboat is surprisingly stable despite needing some adjustments to its turning radius.
