DIY Activated Charcoal Filter For Your Respirator!
thingiverse
Hey Everyone! First off, I haven't lab-tested this yet, and this is still a work in progress, but here it is! I stumbled upon someone else's idea for a small temporary filter using household items and your friendly 3D printer. (If I find that again, I'll link it here.) To make this you need: Filament and a printer Activated Charcoal Powder Cotton makeup remover pads Assemble each filter cartridge (three per side) by following the pictures above. Place a cotton pad at the bottom of a receptacle, then add just a little bit of activated charcoal powder, followed by another cotton pad, then the grate with the nub pointing upward, and finally thread the clamp on top. Put all three into the assembly while also threading in the adapter to properly mate with the mask. For better sealing on the threads, I highly recommend using teflon tape, caulk, or hot glue to seal the threaded surfaces. Good luck and stay safe! Edit 3-30-20: Someone asked if I could make this work for a printable mask, so I've uploaded a file that should do the trick, but don't test it yet! Please print the file with "adapted" at the end at your own risk. The mask can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4241661 Edit 4-2-20: I've made a version of the nanohack mask that directly interfaces with this style of filter.
