Divinité japonaise
sketchfab
This statue, once belonging to Pierre Loti, is a copy of a Japanese sculpture situated in the temple of Toji at Kyoto. It represents a Vidyaraga, one of the primary deities of Japanese esoteric Buddhism. Their role is to protect Buddhism and fight various demons. This Japanese sculpture consists of multiple pieces of colorful wood. Pierre Loti collected it during his trip to Japan in 1885. Although its craftsmanship is mediocre, it demonstrates the resurgence of Buddhist sculpture during the Edo period (17th-19th century). Inv. No.: E 22-413, from the collections of Pierre Loti House at Rochefort (17 - France). View the record in our online database. 3D digitization: scanners Eva and Spider - Artec3D.
