Dividing wall with decorative screen

Located within one of the many compounds in Ras al Khaimah village in UAE, stands a traditional two-roomed structure that boasts a room with a smaller washing area separated by a highly decorative screen from the main living space. This architectural style has evolved over time, as seen in later versions made from cast concrete; however, this particular example is crafted from Juss, a unique blend of sandy and lime mixture that forms a cement-like material. Al Jazirat Al Hamra was once a thriving Za'ab town situated between Ras al Khaimah and Umm al Qawain. Despite being abandoned in the 1970s, this former fishing and pearling hub is now experiencing new life through archaeological recording, excavation, and meticulous reconstruction efforts.
