It's always a thrill watching scuba divers deploy a safety sausage from 5 meters underwater. Often, there's a tangled mess of line everywhere, and if you're lucky, you get to see them being dragged to the surface along with the safety sausage. The solution is simple: use a drop reel. Attach one end to the safety sausage, release the reel, and let it spool out 5 meters of line. Then, inflate the safety sausage, and the line shoots up cleanly. This compact reel takes only 5 meters of dive line (2mm vinyl-coated cord). It fits easily in a pocket or attaches directly to the safety sausage. A threaded inner gap allows for an M10 bolt to make the reel negatively buoyant, preventing it from floating to the surface. Alternatively, you can use a small fishing lead weight for the same effect. Safe diving practices are essential when working with safety sausages and drop reels.
