Distributed Wireless Motion Detection Module
I recently set out to create a distributed presence/motion detection network on the cheap. I've been using basic PIR motion detectors for years, and while they work fine in most situations, there's still a lot to be desired - ease of use and appearance being just two examples.
Why Radar?
PIR motion detectors rely on bouncing around infrared signals, which can't pass through solid objects. That's why most TV remotes only work when pointed directly at the receiver. Due to this limitation, PIRs have to be relatively visible and placed somewhere prominent in a room. On the other hand, radar motion detectors use microwaves that can easily pass through most solid surfaces and walls. Perfect for a 'hidden' whole house motion detection network. Plus, the radar module I use (RCWL-0516) is almost 4 times cheaper!
Components Used
One of the key factors in this project was to be as cheap as possible while still having 'nice to have' extras like a temp and air pressure sensor included. I'll provide a parts list to help anyone who's interested in setting something similar up.

RCWL-0516 Radar Module: £0.35 Link

ESP01 Module: £0.98 Link

Micro USB Breakout Board: £1.80 (For 10) Link

BMP-280 Temp/Pressure Sensor £5.04 (For 10) Link

AMS1117 Voltage Regulator £0.77 (For 5) Link

Total Per Module: £2.20 (2 units free)
Roughly $2.90 USD The assembly process can be seen in the images provided. Each part has to be placed in order for everything to fit. If anyone is confused, don't hesitate to ask your questions in the comments. Anyone who'd like suggestions on ways to use these sensors in a network, I recommend ESPHome (https://esphome.io/). The modules can then be linked to Home Assistant (https://www.home-assistant.io/) for easy management and monitoring. The STP file is also provided for anyone who wishes to make changes.
