Distorted torus (hexagonal grid)
thingiverse
I created a hexagonal grid that wrapped around a torus, giving it a unique and intricate design. To achieve this look, I applied a series of transformations to the basic torus model. First, I pinched one side of the torus inward, creating a subtle indentation. Then, I added a rotation to the section, further enhancing its visual interest. The original torus was designed using Openscad, and then Python took over to manipulate the coordinates of the corners through a clever combination of pinching and rotation. The resulting model was then sent to Shapeways for printing, where it was brought to life in stunning fashion. Shapeways' high-quality print captured every detail of my design, from the intricate hexagonal grid to the subtle curvature of the torus.
