This is a sandstone milestone slab of the Second Legion, discovered at Carleith Farm. The inscription clearly states: "For Emperor Antoninus Augustus Pius, father of his country, the Second Augustan Legion finished 3271 feet of the wall." The Antonine Wall stretched straight across Scotland, from the Clyde to the Forth. Built around 142 AD, and occupied for only 20 years, the remains of its fortifications, steep ditches, forts, and bathhouses are still visible today.
