Dissolvable Test - Chain

Dissolvable Test - Chain

thingiverse

To test HIPS filament's dissolvability, a simple chain model was printed with ABS and supported by HIPS on a Replicator 2X, which took 17 hours to dissolve. However, the limonene required for dissolution cost 100ml for just 2g of HIPS, leaving a citrus scent on the chain. The print was enlarged at 120%, with layer height set at 0.2mm and profiles customized for 4 shells to enhance surface quality. The left head used HIPS (Grey), while the right head was ABS (White). Tool change settings were adjusted based on machine conditions, mixed raft was enabled, purge wall was disabled, and support density was set at 0.8 with extruder temperatures of 230°C for both materials. Rotating the object 90 degrees helped avoid nozzle interference during printing.
