Designers in Residence this year invited young UK-based designers to respond to a brief set by Deyan Sudjic, Director of the Design Museum. The theme for 2014 is disruption. "More than most, 'disruptive' means different things depending on the situation," says Deyan. "It's generally seen as negative - difficult students, bad neighbors, poor town planning - but now it's the quality people want in new products."London designer James Christian has created a series of architectural parasites to occupy empty rooftops, car parks and greens of neglected estates across the capital for his residency at the Design Museum. His project aims to disrupt current British housing design by drawing from past failed schemes. In "doll-house-scaled" models, the two proposed structures are designed as a new type of live/work paradigm that's driven and shaped by its inhabitants.Christian is a graduate of the RCA, a teacher of Spatial Design at Middlesex University, and co-founder of Projects Office.\r\nChristian's work is documented in photographs by Luke Hayes.
