Designers in Residence brings together young UK-based designers to respond to a brief set forth by Deyan Sudjic, Director of the Design Museum. This year's theme is disruption, a term whose meaning shifts with context, according to Sudjic. "It's conventionally seen as negative – difficult students, bad neighbors, poor urban planning," he says. However, in product design, it's now highly sought after. London-based designer and filmmaker Ilona Gaynor disrupts the judicial system by exposing its loopholes to facilitate the staging of an illicit event. Her project is centered around a fictional court case where a National Lottery draw is rigged. Gaynor presents scripts, props, and camera directions that explore how the courtroom setting affects the presentation of details to a jury. Ilona Gaynor is founder of research studio Department of No and teaches digital and media students at Rhode Island School of Design, showing them "how to tell better stories."
