Display for those trains you always planned to create a model rail road for, but never had the space, time, money e.t.c.

Put them on display :)

Designed for 3 layers, but should not be hard to extend to more.

The project started with two questions

Can I create (as in: am I capable of creating) a vase-mode model.

Can I put my trains on display but reduce the amount of dust they will collect. The result, a 23cm half-open tunnel-like structure, in which N-gauge tracks fit perfectly, trains can be shown with pantograph(s) extended, full model seen from the side.

the 23cm is specifically chosen for a double-length straight track (Fleischmann) is 22.2cm, and with a coupler on both ends, the full length is 23 cm :)

I did not consider when chaining 6 (as I did) the full track length would not be the same as the full gallery length. Sorry ;)

See photos for my display.

My entire collection (it's modest) save 2 cars for the Eurostar and 1 german DB passenger car is displayed.

Custom Section

Custom Section

Printing:

What you need to print, if you want a 3-story display;

N = number of sections you want

Tube section: print Nx3 times
Stand: print N+1 times
Stand Brace: N+1 times
Tube guide: print 6x(N+1) times

example:

my display is 6 sections long, so N = 6;
I printed 18 Tubes, 7 stands, 7 stand braces, 42 Tube guides

The stand is very easy to assemble, see next image.

The tube section is - as stated earlier - designed to print in vase-mode.
0 start layers, 0 end layers

I strongly recommend transparent (sometimes called clear) PLA or PET-G; I used both in this project.
I found the PLA stands easier to assemble, the tube section I can no longer tell the difference.

Oh, and remember; vase mode prints UP, so make sure your printer can print 230 mm high, otherwise, scale down but only in Y direction.

Category: Other
