Disneyland Entrance Plaque
thingiverse
Human: "Today you depart and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy." This sign has hung above the two portals under the Main Street Train Station at Disneyland's main gate since 1955. There are at least two other versions of the Disneyland entrance sign here on Thingiverse. I can already hear you asking, "why another one?" Simple: I'm a stickler for accuracy. None of the other models accurately represented the signs as they appear at the park. The letters follow a very gentle curve - a curve that matches both the curve of the sign itself and the broader entrance tunnel's shape. In addition, the sign would have been handcrafted in 1955, meaning a modern typeface doesn't quite work - the letters are highly irregular. I carefully recreated an SVG of the Disneyland signs by hand, tracing each letter and keeping it oriented toward the curve. Some of the kerning of the letters on the original signs is awkward; I've maintained that awkwardness here as well. The one place I've deviated from the original sign is in the four attachment points. In this model, they are pilot holes only to help get mounting placement correct. My plan is to find decorated screws which mimic the original decorated screw covers of the original signs. I have printed this model at 66% and 133% of its uploaded size, as well as a maximum size that my Ender 3 can comfortably handle. At 66%, the As lose their horizontal lines, but most other details were retained. The 133% was a pleasant surprise!
