Under the vast ocean, where sunlight barely reaches, Ariel lives. She's a mermaid princess who longs to explore the world above the waves. Her father, King Triton, rules over the underwater kingdom with an iron fist, forbidding his daughters from interacting with humans. Ariel befriends a fish named Flounder and a crab named Sebastian, who often sing about the dangers of humans. One day, Ariel spots Prince Eric, a handsome young man sailing on his ship. She falls deeply in love with him after saving him from drowning. To be closer to Eric, Ariel makes a deal with Ursula, an evil sea witch who promises her legs in exchange for her voice. However, Ursula has ulterior motives and plans to use Ariel's voice to seduce Eric and marry him herself. Ariel's friends try to stop her from seeing Eric, but she persists in her pursuit of love. Meanwhile, Ursula's eel minions, Flotsam and Jetsam, cause trouble for King Triton and his daughters. As the story unfolds, Ariel must choose between her love for Eric and her life under the sea. In the end, good triumphs over evil, and Ariel finds true love with Eric in a beautiful underwater wedding.
