Disk Entrance for Swarm Traps, Resource Hives and Horizontal Hives

thingiverse

This is a basic disc entrance designed to control the movement of bees out of a 25 mm circular opening. It contains a fully open entrance, a winter entrance (10 mm x 20 mm with awning) and a ventilation opening that provides approximately 80% of the airflow of the fully open entrance while keeping bees inside the hive. I created this disc slightly thicker than the cheap entrances available from many bee suppliers, ensuring it will last for years if printed in ABS HTPE or another weather/UV-resistant material. The central hole is 3.5 mm in diameter but can be drilled out to double that size using a larger screw if needed. To install, center the fully open entrance over your hole and screw it into place. Tighten the screw so that it holds the disc firmly while still allowing for rotation. I suggest printing this disc with 100% infill to maximize its lifespan. Even with this setting, this entrance uses less than $0.15 in filament.
