A raygun is a fictional weapon that emits rays with variable properties, often lethal to humans and destructive to machinery. Often referred to as a death ray, beam gun, blaster, laser gun, phaser or zap gun, it's a staple in science fiction stories where it functions similarly to a real-life gun. Real-world equivalents exist in the form of electrolasers, which are electroshock weapons that use an electrically conductive plasma channel induced by a laser.
