Dishwasher door holder
thingiverse
Kitchenaid / Whirlpool dishwasher doors are notorious for unlatching mid-cycle, causing unnecessary stress and potential messes. To prevent this from happening to yours, I created a simple solution that has proven effective so far. This clever device slips under the counter nosing edge, providing a secure barrier between your dishes and the outside world. If your dishwasher lacks this feature, don't worry - it can be easily modified to fit any profile. I initially used PLA for this project, but unfortunately, the dishwasher's heat eventually deformed it. Undeterred, I re-designed the device using PLA/PHA, which provided a slightly longer lifespan before succumbing to the same fate. However, instead of creating a metal-reinforced version, I decided to take a closer look at the hinge mechanism. Upon inspection, I discovered that the hinge had become bent, causing the edges to lose their parallel alignment. By placing it in a vise and re-straightening the hinge, I was able to restore proper functionality and eliminate the latching issues. I hope this solution proves helpful for anyone else struggling with the same problem!
