We had a team of two for this project, my partner was Andrew Sweet. For our final project, we had to come up with six different concepts for a new product, or redesign an already existing product to make it better overall. As a team, we came up with six different ideas for new concepts or redesigns. After doing some research on our concepts and keeping in mind the amount of time we had to get everything done, we decided to choose the dish wand holder as our final redesign project.The design we came up with for the dish wand holder stood out from other designs by having attachments made for the two standard style kitchen sinks, single and double bowl. While most designs that can function for both usually have a suction cup used to place it onto the sink, we went a different route and made an attachment to go around the faucet. This design is more functional because the consumer wouldn’t have to worry about the suction cup coming off. We designed this attachment to fit around many different style faucets. Our dish wand holder concept also can be placed on the wall between the double bowl kitchen sinks.We created a needs list and specification that the dish wand holder needed to meet. While designing our concept, we made sure that this new design would fit every need on our list to make sure it would be as functional as we needed it to be. When we prototyped our concept, for the most part it functioned properly. We had to make one tolerance adjustment to the wall connector piece to make sure it would function as well as we wanted it to. When we put tolerances on our product, we decided that it would be manufactured as injected molded plastic parts. This process would keep our product low cost for consumers.
